Exams to immigrate to Canada, Quebec & France

If you are applying to immigrate to Canada and want to be tested to gain formal recognition for your competency in the French language, you can choose from a range of evaluation options offered by the Alliance Française du Cap. 

  • Immigration to Canada (Quebec included)

The TEF (Test d’évaluation de français) is composed of four parts:

  1. Oral comprehension: 60 questions (40 minutes)
  2. Written comprehension: 50 questions (1 hour)
  3. Oral production: 2 topics (15 minutes)
  4. Written production: 2 topics (1 hour)

  • Immigration to Quebec

The TEFAQ (Test d’évaluation de français adapté au Québec) is composed of two compulsory parts:

  1. Oral comprehension: 40 minutes
  2. Oral production: 20 minutes

Candidates may also choose to include two optional tests in their application:

  1. Written comprehension: 50 questions (1 hour)
  2. Written production: 2 topics (1 hour)

  • French naturalisation

The TEFNAT (Test d’évaluation de Français pour l’accès à la naturalisation française) is for those who would like to apply for French citizenship. The TEFNAT is composed of two parts:

  1. Oral comprehension: 40 minutes
  2. Oral production: 20 minutes

  • Study in France

The TEF to study in France (TEF pour les études en France) is for those who would like to apply for a degree (licence) at a French university. The TEF pour les études en France is composed of four parts:

  1. Oral comprehension : 60 questions (40 minutes)
  2. Written comprehension : 50 questions (1 hour)
  3. Written production : 2 topics (1 hour)
  4. Vocabulary and structure : 40 questions (30 minutes)

  • How to register

To register, simply read our terms and conditions and return the following documents to exams@cpt.alliance.org.za:

  1. TEF registration form
  2. Copy or scan of your passport or ID document
  3. Proof of payment

Please note that registrations not followed by payment will be disregarded.

To validate your registration you will have to send the completed and signed form and the proof of payment in the same email, otherwise, we will not validate your registration.

You will receive an answer within 7 days after that do not hesitate to relaunch by email.

Registrations are blocked from eleven candidates.

Your registration will not be validated if your form is incomplete, especially if it lacks the ID number, phone number or email. Please enter your full name as the reason for your payment.

The convocations indicating the hours of handover are sent a few days before the exam. However, you can consider being solicited between 8h and 16h. 

Once the exam is over, you will receive the results within plus or minus 6 weeks. We will contact you by email when we have received your results.
